Jewish Federations Statement on Recovery of Thai National Hostage

Jewish Federations of North America welcome the return to Israel of the body of Sudthisak Rinthalak, 43, of Thailand, who was murdered on October 7 while farming at Kibbutz Be’eri.

Sudthisak began working in agriculture at Be’eri for three months and had previously spent several years as a fruit picker along Israel’s northern border.

At the time of the attacks, approximately 30,000 Thai nationals were in Israel, the majority employed in agriculture.

He was a devoted son and loving family member who worked tirelessly to support his parents, Thong Ma and Orn, and is also survived by his older brother, Thepporn. We hope that the return of his body provides some comfort to his family.

His return leaves just one hostage still to be recovered: the remains of Staff Sgt. Major Ran Gvili, 24, who was killed in battle after rescuing attendees at the Nova festival.

We hold Gvili's family in our hearts as they continue to await the return of their beloved son and hero.
