The Basics of Your Federation

1. JFLV is the acronym for the Jewish Federation of the Lehigh Valley!

2. Each year, we launch our Annual Campaign for Jewish Needs, where we ask you for a pledge. A Pledge is your commitment to make a Gift to JFLV's Annual Campaign.

3. Gift, which is a charitable donation, can be paid at any time throughout our campaign year, from July 1 - June 30. There are also payment plan options available.

4. Your Gifts are Allocated to support essential community Agencies such as the JCC, JDS, and JFS and programs in Israel and 70 communities around the world.

Together, your generosity keeps Jewish life in the Lehigh Valley vibrant, connected, and strong.

GLOSSARY OF TERMS

JFLV

The Jewish Federation of the Lehigh Valley, the central organization supporting Jewish life in the Lehigh Valley.

Pledge

A donor’s commitment to contribute a specific amount to the Annual Campaign (or another campaign) over a set period, often within the campaign year.

Gift

The actual donation made to the Federation or its campaign. A pledge becomes a gift once it is paid.

Annual Campaign for Jewish Needs

The Federation’s primary yearly fundraising effort to support local, national, and global Jewish needs through pooled community gifts.

Allocation

The process and outcome of distributing Annual Campaign funds to partner agencies, programs, and initiatives that serve the community.

Affinity Groups

A community circle within the Federation made up of donors or members who share a common identity, profession, or interest (e.g., Women’s Philanthropy, NextGen, Maimonides Society).

Agencies

Partner organizations, such as Jewish Family Service (JFS), the Jewish Community Center (JCC), and the Jewish Day School (JDS), that receive Federation funding to deliver essential programs and services.

Endowment

A permanent fund where the principal is invested, and earnings support ongoing programs or the Federation’s long-term stability.

Restricted Gifts

A donation designated by the donor for a specific purpose, such as a particular agency or program.
