Jonathan Smith

Jonathan Smith, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Lehigh Valley Hospice on September 29th, 2026.

Born to the late Rhoda (Gunty) and Michael (Mickey) Smith, he grew up on Long Island alongside his sisters, Wendy and Leslie. In his youth, he loved sailing on the South Shore and spent his summers at Camp Cayuga and Camp Baumann. He graduated from Hofstra University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing Statistics and later a MBA in Computer Methodology at Baruch College.

Jonathan enjoyed a successful career as a Sales Executive for Gerber Technology, a role he dedicated nearly thirty years to before reluctantly retiring in 2019. Finding that retirement didn't quite suit him, he soon brought his warmth and work ethic to Daniel’s BMW dealership, where he served as a concierge. He took immense pride in his work and was known as a dependable and dedicated colleague.

Above all, Jonathan’s greatest joy was his family. He was predeceased by his sister Leslie Smith and is survived by his sister, Wendy Rohksar; his beloved wife, Susan Smith; his son, Michael Smith and wife Sara Ritter; and his stepchildren, Ben Youngerman and partner Tracy Migliori, Matt Schechtman and wife Amanda Church, and Erin Caruso and husband Ron Caruso. He was affectionately known as “Poppy” to his four grandchildren, Miriam Smith, Clara Smith, Vivian Caruso, and Emmett Caruso, who always brought a bright smile to his face.

He will be remembered as a kind, caring man whose love and steady support guided his family through both joyful and difficult times. His humor, dry wit, and kindness were infectious.
