When Crisis Strikes, Federation Responds

In more than 70 countries around the world, Federations provide immediate relief and long-term assistance to victims of natural and manmade disasters. After two earthquakes devastated Nepal in April and May 2015, Federations mobilized immediately to help the more than 8 million people impacted.

Collaboration is a key aspect of Federations’ disaster relief work. Within a few hours of the first devastating earthquake in Nepal, Federations’ partners had activated their regional network and coordinated with more than a dozen international and Asia-based partners to prioritize aid and address critical and emerging needs.

Ensuring that disaster survivors have enough food is one of Federations’ crisis relief priorities. Within the first two weeks of the devastating earthquakes in Nepal, Federations helped distribute 1,000 kilos of rice and other provisions to hungry survivors, as well as 500 hygiene kits and 500 tarps.

In the wake of devastating disasters, warm shelter offers critical protection to vulnerable disaster survivors. After two earthquakes leveled villages and cities in Nepal, Federations’ partners rapidly assessed damage and immediately began to rebuild homes and create temporary shelters for tens of thousands of homeless survivors.
