Transportation Program Keeps Allentown Woman on the GO

Miriam Kiss of Allentown knows how difficult getting a ride can be. Before learning about The GO Program, Kiss relied on friends to drive her where she needed to go. She has been using The GO Program since its inception.

Started by JFS in partnership with the Jewish Federation of the Lehigh Valley and the Jewish Community Center of the Lehigh Valley as part of Jewish Senior Life Connection, The GO Program offers free door-to-door transportation for Lehigh Valley seniors. When Kiss needs a ride to a doctor’s appointment, she is matched with a trained volunteer driver in the area.

Over 30 people like Kiss benefit from The GO Program, using the service to simply run errands or to go to the airport or visit a friend. Together, volunteers have driven them over 5,000 miles throughout the Lehigh Valley and beyond.

Now Kiss has even struck up a friendship with one of the volunteers who drives her. “She takes me to the grocery store every other week, and we’ve gotten to know each other better. She’s really nice and friendly and makes the trip more fun.”

Kiss wholeheartedly recommends the program to other people who are struggling to find transportation. “It’s really easy,” she said. “I’ve never had any problem getting where I need to be.”
